For over 135 years, Bodega Trapiche, the most important winery in Argentina, has been synonymous with wines with a particularly concentrated character. Located in Mendoza, the center of Argentinean viticulture, the winery is famous for its first-class growing areas at the foot of the Andes. Rainfall is rare in the vineyards, which lie at an altitude of up to 2,300 meters. In the shade of the snow-covered mountain range, the vines are irrigated with glacier water and harvested by hand. This guarantees consistently high quality, as the glacier water ensures optimum irrigation in the sometimes desert-like areas. Argentina's hot days and cool nights promote a good acid structure and allow expressive, full-fruited wines with ageing potential to mature.
Daniel Pi, a luminary of Argentinian viticulture, has been Chief Winemaker at Trapiche since 2002. He attaches great importance to close cooperation with the winegrowers. The grapes come from his own vineyards and are harvested by more than 200 winegrowers from the best growing regions in Argentina.
